Frequently Asked Questions

What is hosting?

The term “hosting” refers to the hardware (servers) and software platforms on which you have space to host and deploy your website and other web-based applications. This typically consists of all of the files and databases that make your website work.

What is shared hosting?

Shared hosting is one of several types of hosting in which web hosting customers share a single server. Websites in a shared hosting environment reside in their own dedicated space on the server, so customers do not have access to each other’s files. Sharing resources like this helps to keep the costs down so that website owners do not need to maintain an entire server on their own.

Can I host WordPress on shared hosting?

Yes! Especially if your web host optimizes the server for WordPress (like we do). And because of its popularity, most web hosting companies offer simple, one-click installation of WordPress (typically through a cPanel).

What is VPS?

VPS is a virtual private server. These typically run on a cloud-based infrastructure (a large pool of networked servers). These are typically used for higher traffic websites (a few thousand visitors per day), or highly customized configurations (much more complex sites and web services).

What is a dedicated server?

A dedicated server hosting service is the type of plan where you rent an entire actual server (rack-mounted, internet-connected computer), and no other websites reside on that server besides yours.

What is managed hosting?

Managed hosting usually combines standard web hosting (shared hosting or VPS) with a higher level of customized support and services. For example, the software in a WordPress website requires updates and maintenance in order to run smooth and secure. A managed hosting plan might include that maintenance, whereas non-managed hosting plans will only ensure the server is online (not your website).

What billing cycles for you offer?

You can pay for your hosting services monthly, quarterly, or annually. And we offer discounts for quarterly (5%) and annual (10%) payments. And there are no contracts, so any pre-payment is fully refundable if you need to stop your hosting service for any reason.

Is your hosting US based?

Yes! Our hosting facility is in a data center in Orlando, FL. Our servers are monitored 24/7 by a great team of network technicians and server admins (when they aren’t hanging out with Mickey).

Can I upgrade my account if I need to?

Yes, you can upgrade (or downgrade) your account at any time. We’ll also take any unused balance you’ve already paid to credit to whatever new plan you move your services to.

Do I need to transfer my domain to you?

We offer competitive pricing on domain names, and it is often easier to manage everything in one place by transferring your domain name to where your hosting maintained. However, if you prefer, you can still host your website with us and have your domain name registered through any other registrar you choose.

Do you offer discounts for non-profits?

Yes! We offer a 10% non-profit discount on all of our services.

What is SSL security?

SSL security is basically encryption for data passing back and forth between visitors and your website. So it’s not necessarily about making the website more difficult to hack, but it’s about protecting visitor information when they are on your website. SSL certificates are included in some of our more advanced hosting plans and are available for as little as $27/yr for lower plans.
